Tire and Wheel Differences 

Each level of the GMC Canyon AT4 is excellent when used for off-roading or for any activity that takes you off the beaten path, including camping, boating, and the like. The standard Canyon AT4 comes with standard bumpers and 265/65R18 all-terrain tires with Dark Gray machined wheels. The AT4X changes the regular Passenger tires for Light Truck tires that are 285/70R17C mud-terrain tires (the C-type tires mean they are for heavier duty and heavier loads). There is also off-road rocker protection and underbody cameras to monitor the surfaces you’re traversing. Finally, the top-of-the-line AT4X AEV Edition features front and rear AEV-branded stamped steel bumpers and beadlock-capable wheels that are wrapped in LT315/70R17 mud-terrain tires. The AT4X AEV also gets special badges and stronger skid plates that are even more protective for heavy-duty off-road use.  

Suspension Changes 

The Canyon AT4 receives a two-inch factory lift and special off-road suspension with Rancho shocks. The AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition get factory three-inch lifts and unique Multimatic DSSV dampers. The standard AT4 gets an automatic locking differential, while the AT4X and AEV Edition models have a selectable locking differential.  

Engine and Capacities 

All trim levels get the well-received TurboMax 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, which is especially perfect for towing campers or boats off the beaten path. The TurboMax engine is perfectly paired with a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission that always has the right gear for the moment. The harder-edged AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition have max towing capacities of 6,000 pounds and maximum payloads of 1,260 pounds. The AT4 keeps the standard truck’s 7,700-pound towing figure and 1,570-pound payload capacities.  

Interior Features 

Once you sit inside the Canyon AT4 models, they are mostly similar, including the standard 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display and 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster. All models get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as heated seats. The AT4X and the AEV Edition have Obsidian Rush interior trims with ventilated seats, with the AEV Edition also getting embossed headrest logos.
