Sierra EV Pickup Will Top Tesla’s Cybertruck Range
Mention EV Pickup to someone, and chances are they will reply, “Cybertruck.” Tesla’s stainless steel, oddly shaped, straight-edged truck has captured plenty of attention. Yet, among the large and growing number of reasons to consider GMC’s Sierra EV over the Cybertruck is that the Serria EV has a greater range of about a hundred miles. GMC of Rochester explains further.
There are practical reasons that pickup trucks have retained the same basic shape for nearly a hundred years. The sides of the bed are horizontal, so you can access and adjust the positioning of your load at the front of the bed without using a stepladder. The cabin’s roof is horizontal, so rear passengers have plenty of headroom, and a bed cover doesn’t block the rear window. Exterior paint looks good and gives you a choice of appearance, but the many undercoatings protect the body from corrosion. This all leads to the view that if you want an EV truck, get it from a company that knows trucks.
Also, consider choosing a manufacturer that over-delivers. Originally estimated to have a range of 400 miles, the Sierra EV actually exceeds that by 10% to an estimated 440 miles. Contrast that to the Cybertruck, which was initially promised to have a 500-mile range but wound up with just 340. The Cybertruck isn’t alone in getting beat as the Sierra EV also exceeds the maximum estimated range of the Ford F-150 Lightning (320 miles), Rivian R1T (410 miles), and GMC’s own Hummer EV Pickup (314 miles). The only model it doesn’t exceed is the mechanically similar Silverado EV.
The Sierra EV will begin its launch with the Denali Edition. It will arrive with a GM-estimated 10,000 pounds of max towing capacity and 1,450 pounds of max payload, which increased by 500 pounds and 150 pounds, respectively, over the original estimates.
The Sierra EV is not just about range and practicality. It also delivers impressive performance. In its Max Power mode, the model boasts an estimated 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. The Air Ride Adaptive Suspension ensures a comfortable ride while also stiffening when necessary. The truck’s ride height can be adjusted by up to two inches, adding to its versatility. The model also features GMC’s first MultiPro MidGate™, which, combined with the standard MultiPro Tailgate in its load-stop position, provides a maximum load floor length of nearly 11 feet.
For increased maneuverability, the model features a four-wheel Steering System, including the CrabWalk feature that can extract the truck from tight spaces. Of course, the model will be available with the Super Cruise true hands-free highway driving system.
Deliveries of the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 are expected to arrive this summer, with a final starting MSRP of $99,495. Other trims of the Sierra EV will follow. You can be one of the first to own this amazing truck by pre-ordering yours now through GMC of Rochester.
