The sporty Encore GX and nimble Encore are both powered by turbocharged engines. The Encore engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. Alternatively, the Encore GX 1.3L ECOTEC® engine pairs with either a continuously variable transmission (CVT) when you choose FWD or a nine-speed automatic transmission with AWD. The 1.2L ECOTEC is only available with FWD and a CVT.

While the basic interior layout of the 2021 Buick Encore and Encore GX is similar, with Buick QuietTuning™, standard cloth with leatherette seat trim, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat, there are several Encore GX interior features that the Encore does not offer. These include:
Outside, the styling of the Encore and Encore GX is a matter of personal preference. The 2021 Encore front end is slightly more rounded than the Encore GX, while the Encore GX boasts a wider grille and slightly more muscular definition along the body lines. While both SUVs roll on 18-inch wheels, the Encore GX offers more wheel color and design options. You’ll also get signature LED daytime running lamps on both Buick models, but only the Encore GX offers LED headlights and LED fog lamps. Other unique available features on the Encore GX include a Black Roof Package, larger panoramic moonroof, and a hands-free power liftgate.
While both the 2021 Buick Encore and Encore GX seat five people, the larger Encore GX provides just slightly more room inside for you and your passengers. One exception to this general difference is rear hiproom — the Encore provides just over 2.5 inches more than the Encore GX. However, the Encore GX also provides more room for your cargo whether you have the rear seats folded up or down.
