GMC Canyon Denali Is The Classic & Classy Pickup

No one can doubt the 2024 GMC Canyon. Journalists and prospective buyers both see that a full-size pickup truck is often less useful and more cumbersome to own and utilize as a daily vehicle than a well-engineered mid-size truck. The Canyon can tow a lot, has plenty of interior space, and has a bed only slightly shorter than a full-size GMC Sierra 1500. 

The Car Connection Review

The Car Connection, a website dedicated to reporting on the automotive industry and reviewing new cars with professionalism, recently took the GMC Canyon Denali for a week-long review around Toronto.  

The Engine Is Worth It

The Canyon engine is something GMC should be very proud of, as it has lots of power and torque, but it is still refined, leaving customers needing nothing more. The Car Connection talked about this in relation to the Sierra, saying, “There is nothing underpowered about this 4-cylinder engine. The turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-4 makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, a diesel-like churn of torque that’s good enough for the base Sierra 1500 full-size truck. At 4,860 pounds, the Canyon Denali 4WD weighs 360 pounds less than a similarly equipped Sierra crew cab with the 2.7-liter, so it’s lighter on its big 20-inch feet. The 8-speed automatic shifts quickly through the lower gears at moderate throttle, and the cabin remains relatively quiet …”

Infotainment

The Canyon Denali also features, like all other Canyon trim levels, a standard 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 7-speaker Bose sound system. 

Towing Capacity & Features

Being able to tow 7,700 lbs means you can tow anything from a jet ski, a boat, a camper, all the way up to a couple of horses. With Hitch Guidance and Hitch View as standard features, it’s now easier than ever to line up your hitch and get to towing. The optional ProGrade Trailering System adds an integrated trailer brake controller, an in-vehicle trailering app, a 220-amp alternator, and Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering.

An Interior Fit For A Family

The interior of the Canyon Denali is also a fine place to be. Some may believe that to get a usable interior, you need to spend more to get a bigger truck. However, as The Car Connection noted, that’s not the case with the Canyon: “We hauled four people and hockey gear around the outskirts of Toronto, and parallel-parked downtown without a problem. The Canyon fits in a suburban garage without stuffing it like a Sierra. Two adults and two adult-sized teenagers had plenty of comfort in the large crew cab. The 34.7 inches of rear legroom may sound small compared to a three-row crossover SUV or especially my friend’s minivan, but the Canyon’s cab is wide and tall; the teens had their backpacks between them, spewing the detritus of the modern teen everywhere.”
