2025 GMC Canyon AT4X Versus Chevy Colorado ZR2 Versus 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor

What powers the Canyon AT4X and what makes it special? 

The 2025 GMC Canyon AT4X is powered by a TurboMax 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four that puts out 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. All power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and buyers will be able to easily tow 6,000 pounds when properly equipped.  

What makes the AT4X unique is the addition of a factory lift that brings the ground clearance to 10.7 inches, a wider track, 33-inch MT tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear e-lockers, underbody skid plates to protect the vehicle during off-road adventures, and the Baja drive mode that is only featured on the AT4X.  

How does the AT4X stack up against the Colorado ZR2? 

When compared to its cousin from Chevrolet, the Canyon AT4X arguably edges ahead. While the Colorado ZR2 and the AT4X have many things in common (like the gorgeous 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display and 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster), the Canyon has an Obsidian Rush interior with Ceramic White accents, Head-Up Display (HUD), and a Bose seven-speaker premium sound system. The HUD is specific only to the GMC Canyon AT4X, as neither the Ford nor the Chevy can be optioned with the Head-Up Display feature.  

But what about the Raptor? 

Once you bring the Ford Ranger Raptor into the mix, the Canyon once again has an easy time winning various battles. Because of the Raptor’s special EcoBoost engine, Ford says you have to put premium gasoline in the truck. The GMC only needs regular fuel, which means you’ll be paying much less at the pump throughout your ownership. Also, Ford handicapped its truck by decreasing its max towing capacity by 2,000 pounds, down to 5,510 pounds. The Canyon AT4X, however, is still able to tow up to 6,000 pounds. While 490 pounds may not seem like a ton of weight, once you have both vehicles loaded up with gear and still need to tow a boat or a camper, owners of the Raptor will start struggling with what they need to leave behind for fear of being overloaded.  

Weight Savings 

Things start to get really interesting when it comes to weight. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 tips the scales at 4,910 pounds while the Ford Ranger Raptor is a bit hefty at 5,325 pounds. The GMC Canyon AT4X weighs a rather svelte 4,840 pounds. Nearly 500 pounds lighter, the Canyon will have an easier time not getting stuck in certain off-road situations.
